Application of Raman Microscopy to Fluid Inclusions in Minerals

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Overview Fluid inclusions are small, sealed, naturally occurring volumes found in mineral host crystals containing encapsulated aqueous and non-aqueous liquids and gases. Discrete mineral phases may also occur within fluid inclusions, either by precipitation from the soluterich fluids or via collocation at a host crystal defect. Fluid inclusions appear in many different patterns. For example, fluid inclusions can be found isolated in a host crystal trapped during initial crystallization or in trails along former micro-fractures or grain boundaries. The study of the abundance, orientation, and chemistry of fluid inclusions provides a rich history of formation and alteration over time, contributing to both fundamental studies of geologic processes as well as practical assessments of economic value.

Magmatic and Metamorphic Fluids in Pegmatite Development: Evidence from Borujerd Complex, Iran

The Borujerd complex of western Iran is composed of intrusions and their surrounding contact aureole, with, pegmatites and quartz veins. Pegmatites differ in mineralogy, origin and age, and two groups can be distinguished. The Older Pegmatites (about 120 Ma age) intruded contact metamorphic rocks from the early magmatic stage, while the Younger pegmatites (52-70 Ma age) formed during the late m...

Near-infrared spectroscopic determination of salinity and internal pressure of fluid inclusions in minerals.

A near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopic method is proposed to achieve the simultaneous determination of salinity and internal pressure of fluid inclusions in natural minerals. A combination band between the anti-symmetric stretching and bending vibrations of molecular water at approximately 5180 cm-1 was observed for standard salt solutions and natural minerals containing fluid inclusions with know...

Investigation of mineralization and fluid inclusions of the Lapeh-Zanak copper deposit, Central Alborz zone, Iran

The Lapeh-Zanak copper deposit is located about 15 km east of Tehran, in the southern part of the Central Alborz Zone. The rock units exposed in this area include a sequence of volcanic and pyroclastic rocks (basalt, andesite, trachy-andesite and dacitic and vitric tuff) belonging to the Fajan Formation with the Paleocene-Lower Eocene age, which are cut by subvolcanic igneous masses with a comp...

THE OCCURRENCE AND ORIGIN OF ZABUYELITE (Li2CO3) IN SPODUMENE-HOSTED FLUID INCLUSIONS: IMPLICATIONS FOR THE INTERNAL EVOLUTION OF RARE-ELEMENT GRANITIC PEGMATITES

Solid – liquid – vapor fluid inclusions in spodumene in rare-element granitic pegmatites commonly contain one or more highbirefringence minerals. Optical examination and laser Raman spectroscopic analyses of over 500 crystal-rich fluid inclusions in spodumene from Bikita and Kamativi, Zimbabwe, and Bernic Lake (Tanco), Manitoba, indicate that the high-birefringence phase is zabuyelite (Li2CO3)....
